On Sept 5, 2018, Surf Equity won the fight for inclusion, the fight for a multi-heat division and the fight for equal prize money across all World Surf League global events. In an email referring to Surf Equity’s advocacy work, Governor Newsom said: “I applaud the courage of the athletes and activist who fought for this victory, and I am hopeful that this will inspire the next generation — of daring athletes and activists with the audacity to challenge the status quo.” New York Times Magazine | Sunday, Feb 7, 2019

Harbor District letter to Coastal Commission

Peter Grenell, General Manager for the San Mateo County Harbor District dashed off this eleventh hour letter to the Coastal Commission during a hearing in Long Beach.

On June 14, 2013, the coastal development permit was moved to the consent calendar with conditions. The Commission approved the permit on the condition that the project be scaled back from 5,600 to 3,500 cubic yards of sediment. When referencing the letter Coastal Commission staff said that the Harbor District has agreed to seek alternative sites.
